After the success of last year's festival, Negro Leagues Baseball Museum president Bob Kendrick decided Kansas City needed a dog of their own. "With all of these other famous dogs from ball parks around the country, it just seemed fitting to have our own specialty dog to be the king of all dogs," Kendrick said.
